I’ve been behind a drum kit for over 27 years — though the story started long before I knew how big a part of my life drumming would become. My first ever encounter with a drum kit was in Year 4 at school in the UK. A teacher’s brother came in to give a free lesson out in the school garages, and from the moment I hit the drums, I was hooked. The following year I signed up for lessons, spending a full year learning nothing but snare, before finally moving onto the full kit and earning my Grade 1 — the only drum grade I’d ever need.

By the age of 14, I was performing live in a school band, blasting out punk classics like American Idiot by Green Day, Armageddon by Alkaline Trio, and Maxwell Murder by Rancid. At 17, I joined my first covers band, The Substitutes, gigging in local pubs and earning just enough for a few beers — but more importantly, gaining real stage experience playing everything from 50s hits to modern rock.

When I turned 19, I stepped into the original music scene with Soundtrack. We recorded an EP, became regulars around the Leicester music circuit, secured a radio spin on Leicester Sound, and even landed support slots with bands like Dodgy.

At 21, life took me away from drumming for a while — but the rhythm never really left. At 34, I found myself behind the kit again, jamming Green Day tunes for fun. Then more recently, I joined Graystarr, and suddenly the fire was back. A friend lent me his daughter’s e-kit and I spent hours every day playing along to music on my Alexa — I was completely addicted. That led me to invest in my Roland TD-17 KVX2, easily one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I started sharing drum clips on Instagram and TikTok, and before long, I discovered live streaming. Since going live on TikTok, my journey has exploded — growing from just 1,000 followers to over 22,000 in seven months, with videos passing one million combined views across TikTok and Instagram.

TikTok also connected me with Scott (@scottydrums1) and his wife Amii — and from there, Brotherhood of Drums was born. Our goal is simple: build a community where drummers, music lovers, and mental health supporters can connect, share their passion, and feel seen.

Because drumming isn’t just music — it’s therapy, it’s identity, it’s family. And Brotherhood of Drums is the home we’re building for all of it.
