Lloyd drums
The name’s Drums… Lloyd Drums.
What’s up! My name is Lloyd and I’m from South Wales. From a young age, I started taking an interest in music. I started off listening to rap music like Eminem, 50 Cent and G.L.C., but around the age of 12 I discovered my first love… SLIPKNOT.
At first, I was scared of the masks, the music the whole thing but the more I watched, the harder it was to turn away. The fear soon turned into an obsession and ever since, they have been my favourite band. Joey Jordison has been the main inspiration for me to pick up the sticks.
In high school, I made friends with a bunch of alternative kids around the time my taste and style were changing. That meant one thing… we ALL needed to play instruments immediately. All of my friends had the rockstar vision playing guitar solos in front of the ladies, singing and getting all the attention, playing bass because it was easier than guitar. Anything except drums… which made me think… well, if no one else is going to play drums, I guess that’s my job!
So I took it upon myself to be the backbone of the 20-piece high school dream band. My parents, like most, asked me why and how loud it was going to be. So I answered, “The band needs me to be the drummer and I’ll be super quiet!” There may have been some twisted truth there… but they still went ahead and bought me my first drum kit for Christmas when I was 13.
From there, I got lessons from a family friend for six months and after that I went on my own journey to try and learn all the Slipknot songs as fast as possible and find out… damn, I have a long way to go.
Throughout my late teens and early 20s, I played in multiple bands, which helped me shape my style and sound. It also helped me understand the industry and meet some really cool people along the way.
Then we sadly get to 2016. My band decides to split, my health is declining, and I’m not far off losing my job. I was in a mess. Drums were the last thing on my mind. Many years went by where I would play once every four or five months. I had no reason to keep playing and I completely pushed aside my main passion in life to deal with health battles.
Fast forward to 2023. I’m standing there looking at all of my awesome drum gear and I think to myself, is this going to keep gathering dust? Not anymore. It’s either you sell it or you play it!
And with that, I gave it one last shot at getting back into drumming. The one thing I had never tried before was recording covers and posting them on the internet. I thought, eh… why not? It’s something different for me and maybe it will reignite the flame.
I started posting covers and taking suggestions on songs to cover next. It was great, but I still missed the feeling of putting on a show and entertaining people live from years of being in a band and feeling the pure rush of adrenaline and excitement of being on stage.
Well… if I’m not in a band and I can’t travel around to play gigs easily then… OH. What’s this “Go Live” button here on TikTok?
And two and a half years later, I’ve been doing it consistently 4–5 times a week building an amazing community and channel whilst putting on a live one-man drum show for people to enjoy 🥁
Many thanks to anyone reading this who has ever supported me in any way. I appreciate it so much ❤️
